The Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies hosts the Cluster of Excellence “Beyond Slavery and Freedom”, which aims to overcome the binary opposition of “slavery versus freedom”. We approach the phenomenon of slavery and other types of strong asymmetrical dependency from methodologically and theoretically distinct perspectives.
As part of the activities of the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS) of the University of Bonn, in collaboration with the European research program SLAFNET and the Center for Research on Slavery and Indenture Studies (CRSI) of the University of Mauritius, we are organizing a workshop on digital humanities on slavery.
The objective is to make an overview of the databases, websites, digital archives and collections on slavery that have multiplied over the last two decades. The proliferation of digital creations raises challenges, in particular regarding dissemination, navigation and safeguarding of datasets.
It will also be an opportunity to present the various digital projects in progress and possibly to stimulate (institutional, technical and scientifical) collaborations.
Finally, we would like to draw up an inventory of the digital productions on slavery, which will be put online on the BCDSS website, the CRSI website, and the future SLAFNET website.
